SEATTLE CELEBRATES JULY 4TH
WITH THE STREETCAR

The Seattle Streetcar became a new part of the July 4th holiday tradition for nearly 5,000 Seattleites this year. With special holiday service that kept streetcars operating until 1 AM, the streetcar provided a great way to get to Lake Union for the fireworks and other holiday festivities. Ridership on July 4 was estimated at 4,949 riders--an exact count was hampered by capacity crowds that filled the streetcars from 3 PM until well after the last rocket's red glare over Lake Union. On December 12, 2007 the city, county and state elected officials joined the public to celebrate the official start of passenger service on the Seattle Streetcar’s South Lake Union Line. Find out more!

Since opening day, the Streetcar has become an integral part of Seattle’s Center City transportation system. It has improved connections for thousands of office workers, residents, shoppers and students by making it easier to get around the Downtown Retail Core, Denny Triangle and South Lake Union areas.

Streetcar Celebrates Half-Year Anniversary, Quarter-Million Ridership Milestone

June 12, 2008 marks the half-year anniversary of the Seattle Streetcar. More than 280,000 passengers have now climbed aboard the new South Lake Union line of the Seattle Streetcar, zooming past initial ridership projections in the first months of operation.
